Very Unusual and interesting building.
Ship’s sails tell stories from the Docks past and present incorporating
textile artwork and photography, by elders, children, young people and
community groups.
We would like to thank HLF for this award which enables us to run
this ‘Ship of Dreams’ Stitches in Time programme. It explores local
heritage through the memories of the working docks from early 1900’s
to present day and engages children and adults with their local heritage
and the relation it has on their environment today. Elders who have
contributed to the project still remember the living docks from their
childhood and these memories have been recorded for young people
to hear. The project involves local schools, young people, community
groups and elders’ groups and will cumulate in the exhibition
‘Textile Trails’ for the Cultural Olympics. The project will be drawn
together into an educational DVD and textile-art ‘Sails’ which incorporates
artwork inspired by reminiscences, memories and imagery from the past
and present depicting the working docks and wharves
